Moksha: Seeking Enlightenment

This photographic story, titled 'Moksha: Seeking Enlightenment', explores the profound spiritual beliefs held by countless Hindus regarding life, death, and transcendence. Set in the sacred city of Kashi (Varanasi), it portrays the final moments of a woman's journey as she embraces the end of her mortal life. The series transitions seamlessly to the revered Manikarnika Ghats, where the eternal flames of cremation burn, symbolising the cycle of life and liberation.

For Hindus, Kashi is not just a city; it is the ultimate destination for attaining Moksha; freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth.

The photographs convey a narrative of faith, surrender, and hope, reflecting the universal human quest for meaning in death. Through the interplay of light and shadow, the images depict the intimacy of her dying moments, the reverence of rituals, and the serene finality of cremation.

This body of work seeks to transcend cultural boundaries, inviting viewers to reflect on mortality, spirituality, and the timeless human aspiration for liberation. By presenting this project, I aim to honour the profound cultural ethos of Varanasi while fostering conversations around life, death, and the transcendence of the soul.
